New Series: Frugal Yet Fun Family Summer
Hooray, it's summer! Time to relax, have some fun in the sun and enjoy a more laid-back schedule!
If you live in the opposite hemisphere, I hope you don’t mind that I take a seasonal turn ;-)
Planning on chilling at home like me? You’ll love what I’ll share with you during the next two months! I have for you inexpensive ideas of summer activities to do in family while passing by safety tips to delicious recipes without forgetting to take care of ourselves through all that.
If you haven’t done so already, now it’s a good time to support my work by clicking the button below and receive additional tips and perks (hint: watch for your new coloring book tomorrow morning 😉)
Now, let’s start with few rules for you and your family to play it safe inside the house, out in the yard, and while roaming the neighborhood.
Air conditioner - Many people use window air conditioner units during the summer months. In addition to making sure yours are properly and safely installed, teach children not to play with the controls, block the air vents or insert objects in the slats of your A/C. Keep cords safely out of reach. Make sure all units are temporarily turned off during electrical storms.
Put away garden tools when not in use - If you plan to have your kids' friends over to play, then it's probably a good idea to put those sharp and heavy objects out of reach so people won't accidentally get hurt. Kids love digging in the dirt. So why not locate a few kid-friendly plastic shovels, rakes and pails out where boys and girls can make their own, age-appropriate gardening fun.
Pick up after the family pet before having friends over - Odors, mess, and of course the potential for disease makes doggy doo a doggy don't. Put that pooper scooper to use in a timely fashion so that walking around in the yard can be a safe, pleasant and hassle-free experience for all.
Teach kids about stranger danger - If your boys and girls are old enough to walk or ride bikes around the block, then they should know to stay away from people they have never met before. Make sure there's a designated safe person in the neighborhood whose house they can stop at if they run into trouble when out and about. And if your child carries a cell phone, be sure he or she knows how to dial 911, and of course call home, in a hurry.
Keep your dog on a leash - If your yard is fenced in, be sure to keep gates shut so your playful pal won't find his way out. Even if yours is the friendliest mutt on Main Street, dogs can get in trouble if allowed to roam freely. He could run into another dog, eat something he shouldn't, or dash out into traffic unexpectedly while chasing a squirrel. Better safe than sorry, even for your pets!
It’s going to be an exciting month full of summer safe frugal family fun!
