6 Frugal Things to Do in Your Community
We’re nearing the end of July already, but I don’t feel to close this series right away. I have so much more frugal summer tips and delicious recipes to share with you!
So for today, I suggest we revisit some of the best tips seen so far. After all, spending time with the family doesn’t have to cost a fortune, but we sometime just need a spark to get moving! There are plenty of free activities you can do within your community.
So, if you’re looking for budget-friendly family bonding ideas, here you’ll (re)discover some top things to do for free in your community.
Visit Your Local Library
If you have smaller kids, heading to your local library for Storytime is a great idea. You’ll find many local libraries run free Storytime sessions.
You’ll get out of the house, your kids will be entertained, and you’ll get to socialize with other parents. This is a great idea if you’re looking for a free activity that will take up an hour or two.

Partake in a Litter Clean Up
Another free thing to do in the community during summer, is to partake in a litter clean up. There are so many benefits to this type of activity, such as getting out in the fresh air and helping to keep the community clean and nicer to live in.
It also teaches the kids about responsibility. They’ll learn about the damage litter has on the environment. They will also get used to being a part of a community, increasing the chances they’ll partake in similar events as they get older.

Go for a Family Walk
Going for a family walk is one of the best free activities you can do together. You can explore nature, enjoy some beautiful fresh air and create great long-lasting memories together.
You could just go for a local walk or take the car to a nature reserve and enjoy a longer walk. This will help to keep the whole family fitter, while also providing a whole range of health benefits.

Take a Look at Your Community Calendar
When was the last time you check your community calendar? This tells you exactly what events are going to be running in your community. Most communities have their own website, or social media pages. Check them out to see upcoming free events you and the family could participate in.
For example, you may find your community hosts movie nights. These are often free, or at least very cheap. While it’s great watching movies at home, there’s something about watching them outdoors, particularly in the summer, that makes them so much more enjoyable.
Just make sure you take a blanket and plenty of snacks and refreshments.

And here are 2 bonus ideas 😎
Bug Hunting
You could combine this activity with going for a family walk. Younger kids love to collect bugs. So, why not tempt them out with a bug hunting trip?
There are a couple of ways you can enjoy this activity. You can either let your kids collect the bugs that they find in a specialized bug container. You can easily find these online. Or, you could simply see how many bugs your kids can spot, ticking them off a check sheet as they go along. Then, once they get home, they can see how many they spotted and potentially learn more about each bug.
Set Up a Lemonade Stand
Why not teach your kids how businesses work and let them set up a lemonade stall? You could also set up a brownie stall, or any kind of stall you want to.
Running their own stand will be great fun and they’ll learn more about money management. You could even let them spend the money they earn or put it into savings.
Recipe Idea: Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie
Attending free events and activities in your local community is a great way to spend time with the family. There are so many great free things to do, providing you don’t have to spend a dime to enjoy time together!
See you tomorrow to discover another frugal way to have fun this summer!
